Statement + CV
Christine Hodgson, a Montreal-based abstract artist, delves into the tension between chaos and order in her work, reflecting both the internal and external landscapes that shape human identity. Growing up in a rural environment, her artistic vision is deeply influenced by the contrasts between nature and urban life, capturing the push-and-pull energy of these opposing forces.
Hodgson's art is rooted in the raw energy of abstract expressionism, the spontaneity of automatist gestures, and the constant dialogue between organic and rigid forms. In her compositions, nature and urbanity collide, reflecting a dynamic and transformative process. Each brushstroke embodies this interaction, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexity of identity, shaped by both the environments we inhabit and our inner worlds.
Her paintings are spaces where disorder and structure coexist, creating compositions where chaos reinforces order and vice versa. Hodgson’s instinctive energy drives her exploration of the interplay between these opposing forces, offering a captivating visual dance that questions our perception of space, time, and identity.
